Protecting Fragile Items During Shipping: What You Need to Know

Shipping fragile items requires extra care to ensure they arrive safely. Follow these essential tips to protect your goods in transit:

1. Use Strong, Double-Walled Boxes
Choose a sturdy box that’s slightly larger than the item to allow for cushioning. Avoid reused or damaged boxes.

2. Wrap Each Item Individually
Use bubble wrap, foam sheets, or packing paper to wrap each item separately. Secure with tape to keep the wrapping in place.

3. Cushion the Bottom
Place a layer of cushioning material (packing peanuts, foam, or crumpled paper) at the bottom of the box before placing your item inside.

4. Fill All Empty Spaces
Prevent movement by filling gaps with protective materials. Items shifting inside the box are more likely to break.

5. Use Dividers for Multiple Items
For sets like glassware or ceramics, use cardboard dividers to keep them from touching each other.

6. Label the Box as “Fragile”
Clearly mark the box with “FRAGILE” and “HANDLE WITH CARE” on multiple sides to alert handlers.

7. Seal the Box Securely
Use high-quality packing tape and apply it to all seams using the H-taping method (top, bottom, and sides).

8. Insure Valuable Shipments
For high-value or irreplaceable items, consider purchasing shipping insurance for added protection.
